planet. Our professional Paint Team has had over 32 years of
experience in custom frame painting. The Bicycle Shop features an
in house state of the art paint booth, complete with top of the
line painting equipment, including a full line of airbrushing
equipment for those unique personal touches. We use the Du Pont recommended paint system for every stage of the process to
guarantee your new custom painted frame will look as good ten
years from now as it did on the day you picked it up. No matter
if you are having a flame job overlaid on a carbon fiber bicycle
frame , or are just restoring a classic beauty,- when you have it painted at the bicycle shop, you are assured the best possible
results.
Steel: Single Stage
Paint System
- The frame is stripped to the base metal using chemical strippers.
- Next the frame is glass beaded to remove corrosion,
oxidation and rust as needed.
- Then the frame is cleaned with Du Pont's 5717 metal
conditioner (an acid cleaner)
- At this time any metal work is performed upon customers
request ( braze on, dent repair, alignment, etc)
- Next Du Pont's Variprime (a self etching primer) is
applied to the frame.
- Uro Primer, Filler is applied next which becomes the real
foundation for the paint.
- Spot putty and body filler are then used as needed to
fill frame imperfections.
- Wet sanding then brings out that glass like surface, for
color application
- The frame is then reprimed as needed to cover any frame
work.
- Du Pont's Centari Acrylic Enamel is now applied wet and
glossy or matte, as requested by the customer.
Steel: Two Stage Paint
System
- Same as single stage up through step 10,
- Now Chroma Base color or colors, with any custom paint
work is now applied
- After the paint work is completed effects are applied to
the frame such as: pearl, metal flake, flip flop, etc.
- If decals are desired, they are applied at this time.
- Du Pont's Chroma Clear, a urethane clear, is the final
step in protecting and beatifying your new paint.
Aluminum: Single Stage
paint System
- The frame is stripped to the base metal using chemical strippers.

Cleaner
- Following the metal cleaner, Du Pont's 226s Conversion
Coating is applied to the frame.
- Next Du Pont's Variprime (a self etching primer) is
applied to the frame.
- Uro Primer, Filler is applied next which becomes the real
foundation for the paint.
- Spot putty and body filler are then used as needed to

- Wet sanding then brings out that glass like surface, for
color application
- The frame is then reprised as needed to cover any frame
