Piranha Pit

Trial Name:            Piranha Pit

Location:            Havelock (Cherry Point Marine Base), NC

Directions:     From hwy 70, go straight thru the MCAS Cherry Point main gate. Continue for about 4 miles and make a left into the "Shady Grove" picnic area. The trailhead is behind the first gazebo (on main dirt road) on the right. Please Note: A visitors pass is required to access the base (unless of course you have the proper military credentials). This is technically not public land, but obtaining the visitors pass is no problem as long as you have a valid drivers license, auto insurance ID card, and a valid registration.

Review:          If you ask most people what they remember most about the piranha pit they will tell you the roots. This is for a good reason. There are lots of roots. Overall this is a very fast trail with a sandy base. This trail also drains very well.  There are also no major elevation changes. In addition to being a great trail it is also a pretty place to ride since it is on the banks of the Slocum Creek. The brackish water gives a true wilderness look to the trail.

Rider Quote: “Lots of twists and turns, lots of places to fly through - banked and bermed so you can approach horizontal on the lean thought the turns. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this one. ”

MTBR Rating:              3.8
